The Shell Gas Station at China Creek between Castlegar and Trail has closed. The sign says, “Thanks for 33 years of friendly patronage“. I don’t know the story behind this closure, but it is a stark reminder of the end of the age of oil. As gas prices rise and people are forced to reconsider their travel habits, the smaller gas stations will find it harder and harder to maintain customers.
