Did You Do Earth Hour?

Were you part of the Earth Hour Energy Action? In our household the girls loved the novelty of a candlelit dinner, but all our evening activities were undertaken by candlelight. For us it wasn’t just an hour, it was a whole night. Here’s some local stats of the impacts in BC…

CivicInfo BC – News

British Columbians saved 125 megawatts of electricity during Earth Hour, the equivalent of turning off 2.5 million lights.
BC Hydro calculates the overall reduction in load was approximately an average of two per cent throughout the entire hour.

If everyone who participated in Earth Hour on Saturday, March 29 from 8-9 p.m. did the same thing every Saturday night, the combined savings would be enough to power 573 homes for an entire year.

Thanks for your comment, Thanks for your comment, being in Local Government, CivicInfo is a pretty up to date news source on all things municipal in BC. I’ve subscribed to your blog too.

Nice. Thanks for those Nice. Thanks for those stats, I was wondering how it would play out province-wide.

Two percent off of the entire load is good, but not totally impressive. It may be just the most ‘connected’ people who partook: ‘connected’ as in world-savvy.
