Aborigines win ownership of Perth – National – smh.com.au

THE West Australian Government will appeal against a Federal Court ruling that granted native title of Perth and its surrounds to the indigenous Noongar people.

No it’s not April fool’s day, but it makes you wonder.  Native title has been successfully argued in many remote, farmland or industrial areas as well as some National Parks, however, this seems to be one of the first times that a Federal Court has granted Native Title over residential land.

It would be like saying that the whole Sydney basin land was no longer owned by each land owner, and that no one was really free to live there or do anything to the land without permission from the Native Aboriginal people. Justice and ownership are one thing, but accepting such a large native title claim (193,956 square kilometres) is ludicrous.

Seeing as you’re asking for Seeing as you’re asking for comment, I’ll say that I think this is a fantastic thing and can’t believe Johnny Howard is so anal retentive to make a Federal Government challenge. I mean I know he’s seriously racist but it’s just amazing how he never lets up on the subject. Power’s gone to his head and he really believes he owns this country and he wants to turn it into the blandest, middle-class bland land anyone could imagine, just one big money-making venture. In his hands the outback is threatened with ruination, with nothing sacred. Yet this decision is mild. Aboriginal people’s input into managing some things like parks would bring some life back into this bland land and some beauty to make Perth more interesting and humane to live in and to visit.
