Two Car Family

I knew this day was coming. There was a moment some years ago where I thought, "well this can’t last forever…" Since Robyn and I met over 7 years ago, we have been a one car family. There were moments when two cars were in our possession, but these were rare, and typically company vehicles for project work only.

A couple of months ago we downsized from a gracefully aging minivan to a Toyota Matrix as our family vehicle. It seems that even in this day and age of fuel price awareness, we are in the minority around here of people actually downsizing their family vehicle. The Matrix, with a set of winter tires, handles great on these wintery roads, way better than most pickups, however, I will concede that carrying capacity can be an issue. But seriously, how often do you haul a tonne of hay in the back of that duallie pickup?

The Toyota Yaris that is our second car is not much smaller thatn the Matrix, but more efficient for around town driving and perfect for Robyn to run errands and make the drive between the rural centres out here in the Kootenays.

Have you/would you consider making the downsize decision? Are there reasons you wouldn’t?
